New 2021 VW Amarok will be the next-gen model. The German pickup will host vast improvements. However, electrification is still years away. Volkswagen plans to electrify its entire lineup of SUVs and pickup trucks. Yet, Amarok will have to wait a little while. Knowing that the gasoline powertrain will remain.

Even the diesel engine is in the offer. Amarok will share its platform with the next-generation Ford Ranger. New engines are a huge possibility. However, that will depend on the market. We can expect a lot of visual upgrades, and the interior will also suffer some significant changes.

New Platform

Ford and Volkswagen will join and share technology. For that reason, the new 2021 VW Amarok will share the platform with Ford Ranger. Not only that, the two will share numerous features and systems. We already saw various manufacturers joining up and creating something unique.

Isuzu and Holden did it with the Colorado model before D-Max appeared. Mazda’s BT-50 also shares the underpinnings with Ford Ranger. The new platform will be able to accommodate larger engines. So far, this is officially confirmed. However, we don’t know the exact details.

2021 Amarok Redesign

The approaching 2021 VW Amarok will arrive with a redesign. Exterior specs are not available yet. However, we can surely expect numerous changes in terms of styling. On top of that, new exterior features will be in the offer.

That includes new grille and headlights. Volkswagen is also working on new bumpers and larger and optional wheels. A two-horizontal bar grille will remain, and the taillights will get a slimmer look. 2021 VW Amarok redesign

No Electrification

Both Volkswagen and Ford already announced enormous plans for electrification. Two manufacturers are planning to electrify most of their lineup of crossovers, SUVs, and pickups. However, new 2021 VW Amarok and 2021 Ford Ranger won’t introduce electric drivetrain.

This information was confirmed by Volkswagen. In a further statement, even the hybrid model is not in plans. We anticipate new information because both Ranger and Amarok will surely get a hybrid variant before 2023.

Engine Rumors

Some reports are predicting for 2021 VW Amarok to borrow Ford’s engine. The collaboration is definitely taken to another level. Blue Oval’s 2.7-liter EcoBoost is the most likely candidate. For some other markets, a 3.0-liter diesel is also very probable.

On top of that, Ranger could borrow an engine from Amarok pickup. There is still plenty of rumors, but something is definitely happening here. Besides that, Amarok will keep its standard 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel powertrain.

2021 VW Amarok Price and Release Date

The approaching 2021 VW Amarok will inevitably cost more. After all, the new-gen model will host so many upgrades and changes. For that reason, the price will start at $32,000 or slightly above that.

The range-topping trim level will be priced at over $50,000. New Volkswagen’s pickup will go on sale later in 2021. On top of that, the U.S. variant will arrive at the beginning of 2022.
