2020 Volkswagen Tarok Rides On The Same MQB Platform As The Tanoak Pickup

Volkswagen announced its newest Tarok model. It is a compact pickup truck that is already in the production. Tarok will arrive in the last quarter of 2019. Pickup is based on the concept that also carries the name “Tarok”. The 2020 Volkswagen Tarok will look very close to the concept. However, this model is still uncertain for the North American market.

However, automotive giant certainly has big plans for the Tarok. After all, Volkswagen presented the Atlas-based Tanoak concept at the New York Auto Show. Clearly, VW wants to compete at the biggest pickup truck market on the globe. For that reason, we can expect Tarok in the U.S. in the near future.

2020 Volkswagen Tarok Looks Sleek and Sporty

Interestingly, the 2020 Volkswagen Tarok rides on the same MQB platform as the Tanoak pickup model. However, Tarok is dimensionally smaller. Tanoak’s size is closer to the Ranger and Gladiator trucks. On the other hand, Tarok is a compact pickup truck. The bed is 47.5 inches long. That is the smallest bed in the United States.

When it comes to exterior design, Volkswagen promised the same design as on the concept. Of course, that will hardly happen. Tarok won’t feature LED accents up front, surely. The pickup will look handsome and it comes with a Targa-inspired roof bar. The front fascia looks sleek and sporty. To the sides, Tarok looks way too long and low for a regular pickup. Only a four-door variant will be in the offer.

Interior Is Unique

We don’t know anything about the interior design, except the concept. However, Volkswagen said the cabin design will be the same as the concept’s interior. Interestingly, Tarok’s cabin won’t be anywhere near the same as the Tanoak’s cabin. Volkswagen will provide a fully digital gauge cluster. We don’t like the smaller infotainment screen. The rest of the competition is offering significantly larger units.

Two-Tone leather upholstery will be optional as well, something we can’t see in the pickup truck segment. Also, leather materials can be found on the dash and door panels. The 2020 Volkswagen Tarok will be very practical. You can fold the rear seats which will provide enough space for a surfboard, easily. The cabin will be very comfortable and modern. However, it is a compact pickup truck, so don’t expect generous legroom.

Powertrain Performance

Volkswagen mentioned only one engine. It is a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This engine comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission and optional 4Motion all-wheel-drive setup. The gasoline engine is providing 150 horsepower and it drinks pure E100 ethanol.

On the other hand, the diesel engine will be optional. A 2.0-liter TDI could be in the offer. This engine meets all of the regulations in Europe and South America. However, if an automaker wants to launch 2020 Volkswagen Tarok in the United States, a more powerful engine is a must.

2020 Volkswagen Tarok Price and Release Date

The price of the all-new 2020 Volkswagen Tarok is not available right now. However, this pickup truck will look to compete with Fiat Toro. Toro is priced at $28,000 so we can expect a similar price from VW Tarok model.

This pickup will arrive in the last quarter of 2019. The U.S. model is still uncertain. Besides that, Volkswagen will look to deliver a Tanoak and Atlas models as well.
