The Japanese manufacturer has big plans for its full-size pickup. The upcoming 2022 Toyota Tundra is about to get numerous upgrades. Tundra is a bit of a relic at the moment. Everything about this model seems to be aging and out of date. Fortunately, the full-size pickup truck will be heavily refreshed for 2022.
You can expect so many upgrades that the next-gen Tundra will be ready to rival more established models in the segment. On the other hand, its debut next year could be rescheduled due to the pandemic that also affects the economy. Anyway, Tundra is in the works and here’s what Toyota will deliver later next year.
2022 Tundra Redesign
The brand-new 2022 Toyota Tundra will get a completely new design. The redesign will bring us a mix of new RAV4 crossover and a new Highlander SUV. It is a new Toyota’s design language and most of the new brand’s vehicles will wear the same or similar design. For a start, new Tundra will get new c-shaped LED headlights with high-mounted beams. A trapezoidal grille wears plenty of chrome accents and it comes with an upper air intake.
Overall, the front part looks more detailed and more sophisticated. The hood is similar to the hood of the Ram 1500 which is interesting. To the sides, the pickup truck will look simple and muscular at the same time. New black a-pillars are bringing something new to the overall appearance of the truck. Moreover, the 2022 Tundra comes with a power tailgate, vertical LED headlights, and integrated bumper steps.
The company’s new F1 platform will underpin the next-gen 2022 Toyota Tundra. The same platform underpins Tacoma and Sequoia models. New architecture brings more interior room and a higher-quality ride. Toyota will equip the new Tundra with the latest high-tech features. That includes a new 12.3-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Moreover, Tundra will offer Amazon Alexa and 4G Wi-Fi connectivity. Even the infotainment system will be the same as in the Toyota Highlander model. Toyota’s Safety Sense 2.0 is also available and it provides the latest driver-assistance aids. That includes road sign recognition, lane departure warning, pedestrian detection, and adaptive cruise control.
New Hybrid Powertrain
According to various sources, a new 2022 Toyota Tundra will deploy a 3.5-liter V6 twin-turbo engine. This engine is present in the Lexus brand and it will work with a hybrid system. Thanks to that, Tundra will generate 450 horsepower. This V6 works with a 6-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission. It is a rear-wheel-drive setup that will be offered as standard.
Of course, the four-wheel-drive system will be optional once again. Tundra will arrive with coil spring rear and air suspension variants. Furthermore, Toyota offers dynamic torque vectoring with trail and multi-terrain modes. We don’t know yet what will happen with 4.6-liter and 5.7-liter engines that are currently available. A hybrid setup could join them or it could replace them completely.
2022 Toyota Tundra Price and Release Date
The forthcoming 2022 Toyota Tundra will now cost around $35,000, maybe even more. More precise details will be released later this year. The sales will start in the second half of 2021. You should also expect an even higher price for the TRD Pro trim level as well. Next-gen Tundra will rival Ford F-150, Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra, and Ram 1500 models. Also, you should pay special attention to the new Nissan Titan.
