One of the best pickup trucks in the segment, the 2022 Toyota Hilux, is getting the next round of refreshments. This truck is top-rated because it features excellent off-road packages, an attractive and compact exterior design, and the most important, a charming cabin.
According to many media reports, the forthcoming model will deploy some of predecessor’s engines, and alongside them a new hybrid powertrain. However, the hybrid model will be unfortunately only available for Australian customers. Toyota also claims that the Hilux body will be stiffer, and that we can expect its release sometime this year.

2022 Toyota Hilux Redesign
The new set of photos are available, and the 2022 Toyota Hilux looks refreshed. Generally, the most noticeable changes are on the front. Obviously, the manufacturer revised its grille, and the headlight shape is different than before, providing a more ruthless look. Also, the new design on the front includes bright chrome circumference.
Moreover, some small updates are also visible at the back, and the Hilux features bolder styling than its predecessor. Generally, this time Toyota increase night visibility thanks to the better graphics in taillights, and most importantly, it reduces power consumption.
First Look Inside
For 2022, the Hilux cabin looks much better, no doubt. However, Toyota offers the same layout as the predecessor, providing comfort for all occupants. Stepping in, you`ll fist noticed an upgraded multimedia system of the 8-inch touchscreen and more premium materials. However, no matter which one trims you choose from, expect standard features like voice recognition, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
Moreover, more options are available on the upper trims. For example, going for the topping range model SR5, buyers will get a premium JBL audio system with nine speakers and the best in the class rear subwoofer. As for the safety assist systems, the new Hilux has many of them. It includes seven airbags, traction control, stability control, hill-start assistance, and trailer sway control.

2022 Toyota Hilux New Hybrid System
The forthcoming 2022 Toyota Hilux will keep the same engines from its predecessors. However, the hybrid system is available for the first time, but only for Australian customers. No changes are made, and the same 2.4-liter mill is there, producing 148 horses at 3,400 rpm and 295 pound-feet of torque between 1,600 and 2,000 rpm. Power is sent to all wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox.
However, the more potent is a 2.8-liter engine that churns out 201 horses at 3,400 rpm. The hybrid system will be available for Australian customers only. This system consist of a combust engine combined with an electric motor. Thanks to that combination, Hybrid should be capable to produce a combined output 200 hp and 350 lb-ft of twisting power.

Release Date and Price
The release date of the 2022 Toyota Hilux is set for later this year. Besides attractive and refreshed styling, this model also features a new hybrid engine. Unfortunately, a hybrid unit will be only available in Australia. The price will most likely remain the same, and we can expect the next Hilux to start at $27,000.
As for the hybrid variants, some Australian car magazines reveal that the price could be around $35,000, which is about 8000 more than the standard model.
