It will be a mid-size pickup truck, based on the Ascent SUV. Moreover, Subaru will try to take advantage of its all-wheel-drive system. The idea of the Ascent-based pickup truck makes perfect sense.
Some renderings are already available, and we have an idea of how the new model could look like. However, we are looking at a bigger picture, and some reliable sources are even suggesting the same boxer engine that powers the Ascent SUV. The Interior will be similar as well, but probably less premium. After all, Subaru will deliver a more affordable competitor for a mid-size segment.
Subaru Pickup Truck Renderings
For a start, the new 2021 Subaru Pickup Truck will ride on a brand’s Global Platform. This architecture allows Subaru to build a pickup truck around it, without major changes. Design-wise, Subaru won’t need to do anything special. An Ascent-based pickup truck will borrow almost everything from its SUV sibling. Of course, dimensions are slightly different, including the shape.
A new pickup truck will compete in a mid-size segment, and it will represent something really unique. Once it arrives, Subaru Pickup Truck will feature a four-door body with a standard all-wheel-drive setup. This is a perfect combination, especially for customers in the United States.
Modern Interior Design
The forthcoming 2021 Subaru Pickup Truck will offer a good-looking interior. It is a combination of Ascent’s cabin and the interior of the famous Viziv concept. However, the pickup truck variant won’t offer such a level of luxury. Still, the cabin is more than competitive for its segment. Total output will deliver almost 300 horsepower and around 280 lb-ft of torque. The pickup truck will provide almost the same fuel efficiency as its SUV sibling. A CVT transmission will be in the offer, and we don’t know if the manual gearbox will be offered.
Hybrid is not an option right now, but it could happen in the future. Interestingly, the pickup truck will sit higher than the Ascent SUV. That means we should expect around 8.7 inches of ground clearance. Sport trim will deliver raised suspension, and an all-wheel-drive system will be offered as standard.
2021 Subaru Pickup Truck Release Date and Price
The price of the 2021 Subaru Pickup Truck is a mystery at the moment, but anything above $30,000 would be a surprise. As we said, there will be three trim levels, and a new model will be produced in the Subaru’s Indiana plant, where the Ascent SUV is manufactured as well. The sales will start in the first quarter of 2021, with more details to follow.
