Nissan-Renault-Mitsubishi alliance is working on the new version of the Triton pickup truck. The 2022 Mitsubishi Triton, aka L200, will go on sale later in 2021 and it will introduce numerous refreshments. Triton is especially popular in Australia but you can find L200 in different markets.
Just like the German competitors, new Triton will most likely use a V6 turbo-diesel engine. On top of that, thanks to the new platform, a hybrid engine is the probable outcome as well. This pickup truck will suffer a couple of visual changes and the interior will be more modern.
2022 Triton Exterior Facelift
The all-new 2022 Mitsubishi Triton will introduce the new platform. Mitsubishi said the new architecture is on the way, and it will be able to accommodate hybrid powertrain, similar to the Outlander PHEV. Thanks to that, Triton could be slightly larger, once it arrives.
The arriving pickup will also get cosmetic changes. That includes new front fascia, new character lines, and possibly new taillights. Mitsu will also introduce better aerodynamics and a new model will definitely look more attractive and modern.
Interior Upgrades
On the inside, the approaching 2022 Mitsubishi Triton will get plenty of modern touches. That includes a new infotainment system, larger displays and possible new cloth upholstery. However, the biggest update will happen thanks to the new platform.
For a start, Triton will introduce more ample legroom. Moreover, the new architecture will provide a much better driving experience and the ride quality is of the highest quality. On top of that, a list of standard amenities is longer than before. Still, the cabin layout largely remains, just like the interior design.
New Turbo-Diesel V6 and Hybrid Variant
The next Triton pickup will get a turbo-diesel V6 engine. The upcoming 2022 Mitsubishi Triton will also get a hybrid powertrain, like the Outlander PHEV SUV. Interestingly, but Triton-based Pajero Sport SUV could get electrification in 2022. However, we are talking about some sort of hybrid rather than pure electric energy. With that in mind, Triton should also introduce new engine options.
On the other hand, the pickup needs heavy-duty requirements, and it is much tougher to create such an output. Of course, the focus is on towing capacity and payload ability. For that reason, the turbo-diesel engine will be introduced. If you want better fuel efficiency, you will logically buy a hybrid variant. Mitsu said that there are two or three possible outcomes for the Triton pickup truck. However, the PHEV version is one of them for sure.
The question is which type of PHEV will Mitsubishi deliver and what are the specifications. Logically, Mitsubishi will also look to improve overall drivability, handling, and of course, the performance. As for the V6 engine, VW Amarok is already offering such a unit. Moreover, new Mercedes Benz X-Class will introduce the very same output. The third option could be one of Nissan’s reliable gasoline V6 engines, but this is a wild guess for now.
2022 Mitsubishi Triton Price and Release Date
The latest news is saying the 2022 Mitsubishi Triton could cost almost $40,000. That is not such an affordable price but Triton is an established model that comes with great performance and tradition.
This pickup truck will go on sale globally, probably in the second half of 2021. On top of that, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance will release new Alaskan and Frontier models in the near future.
