The all-new 2020 Mazda BT-50 is coming to the markets with plenty of changes and refreshments. Some significant upgrades are about to happen. For the start, the pickup truck will arrive with the Mazda’s Kodo design language. That means the new model will get the more aggressive look with more muscles.
The current model was based on the Ford Ranger Raptor and the new one will borrow plenty of cues from the Isuzu D-Max pickup. These two models will be similar, both design-wise and mechanically. Unfortunately, this model is still not available in the pickup-packed U.S. markets.
2020 Mazda BT-50 Kodo Design Language
The current model didn’t meet the expectations in terms of design and styling. We could say the current BT-50 is a total miss as Mazda tried to deliver a Nagare styling scheme. For that reason, the 2020 Mazda BT-50 will arrive with the iconic Kodo design language. The previous styling wasn’t that attractive, it was a combination of Mazda’s styling cues and design of Ford Ranger.
Now, the 2020 model comes with the appearance that is based on the Isuzu D-Max pickup truck. We can expect an SUV-like design with plenty of muscular cues. As a result, new BT-50 will look more aggressive and eye-pleasing. Meaner stance and great aerodynamics will provide much more interests from the customers for sure. We can also expect larger grille, headlights, and bumpers up front. On the other hand, 16-inch wheels are standard, just like before.
2020 Mazda BT-50 Cabin Redesign
From the inside, we can expect some further changes to happen as well. The 2020 Mazda BT-50 will look more modern from the inside. This pickup will arrive in numerous trim levels and the level of trim will largely decide the level of luxury inside the cabin. BT-50 is available as a two and four-door model. Of course, two-door models are providing more difficult entrance and the legroom is not that ample.
On the other hand, four-door models are very practical and easy to access. Comfort will be improved as Mazda will introduce more upscale materials. The base model comes with solid standard features and most of the premium amenities are optional. Upper trims are offering better safety, Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto as standard. A 7.8-inch touchscreen is standard and Mazda will most likely introduce a new and larger unit as an option.
2020 Mazda BT-50 Engine Details
The upcoming 2020 Mazda BT-50 comes with the same 3.2-liter engine. This five-cylinder turbodiesel engine is producing 200 HP and 345 lb-ft of torque. Since the latest change is significant, there is a possibility for Mazda to ditch the optional 2.5-liter four-cylinder SkyActiv unit.
This powertrain is producing 185 HP and 285 lb-ft of torque. A 3.0-liter is a speculated replacement that cranks out 180 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of twists. The same engine is powering the current Isuzu D-Max pickup truck. Front-wheel-drive setup will remain standard but the all-wheel-drive system will be offered as an option. The same stands for the transmission as BT-50 will offer a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox.
2020 Mazda BT-50 Price and Release Date
The price of the forthcoming 2020 Mazda BT-50 will start at around $30,000. Numerous trim levels are available so the price could be significantly higher if you want more luxury. We can expect Mazda’s newest pickup truck to arrive later this year.
