The new Wrangler-based pickup truck is one of the most anticipated models for the next year and latest reports suggest it will use a familiar name from the 80’s, 2020 Jeep Scrambler. This will be the first pickup truck from Jeep in over three decades. Last time we saw such a vehicle in production was in the mid-80’s. Since then, Jeep has stayed focused on SUV and crossover vehicles. Still, a truck like this is in the company’s plans for years.
Way back in 2005, we saw a concept called Gladiator. This was one of the potential names for the new model. However, the company has decided to use a more familiar nameplate. The new model will come with plenty of things in common with new Wrangler, including platform, design language, engines etc. We are expecting to see 2020 Jeep Scrambler somewhere in the second half of 2019.
2020 Jeep Scrambler design
When it comes to base design characteristics, the 2020 Jeep Scrambler will have plenty of things in common with the new Wrangler. The new generation of the legendary SUV was released just recently, with plenty of novelties. There is a new architecture that will be used for the new truck as well. Among numerous new technologies and design solutions, the use of lightweight materials is also notable. Such pound saving will be a great benefit when it comes to things like efficiency, off-road performances etc.
Still, the 2020 Jeep Scrambler won’t feature exactly the same platform as Wrangler. We will see some tweaks to the chassis, in order to provide better utility characteristics. Also, a wheelbase will be longer for sure, due to better bed capacity. Besides all these great mechanical characteristics, we are about to see a very attractive styling as well.
2020 Jeep Scrambler styling
When it comes to the styling, the new 2020 Jeep Scrambler should be very attractive. Unlike most mid-size trucks on the market, this one will feature a rather unusual appearance. This is something that everyone was expecting. After all, the Wrangler by itself is pretty unique. So, what are we going to see on the new truck?
The 2020 Jeep Scrambler will definitely feature the same design language as new Wrangler. Since even this SUV hasn’t changed a lot through all these years, we are about to see a familiar face. The front end of the truck is about to be completely identical. Rest of the truck will be designed in a classic pickup manner, which means a pretty spacious bed. Most likely, we will see only one cab configuration in the offer. The 2020 Jeep Scrambler should come with some kind of a double-cab layout.
2020 Jeep Scrambler engines
This is another aspect where we don’t expect to see surprises. The 2020 Jeep Scrambler will feature the same engine lineup as new Wrangler. In practice, this means the same base 3.6-liter V6 engine. Besides this unit, we should see some smaller and far more efficient inline-four in the offer as well.
These two engines should be the core of the new pickup, but diesel powertrain is almost certain as well. Most likely, we will see the same Italian oil-burner from Grand Cherokee. This means 3.0 liters in displacement and a max output of around 240 horses. In the future, a hybrid version is expected as well.
2020 Jeep Scrambler release date and price
The 2020 Jeep Scrambler should come somewhere in the second half of the next year, though a more precise launch date is yet to come. When it comes to price, many reports suggest around 30.000 dollars for the base model.
