Jeep is finally releasing its first pickup truck in decades. The 2020 Jeep Gladiator is finally here, after years of speculations and spy shots. It is official now and Jeep is describing Gladiator pickup as the most capable mid-size pickup ever. New Gladiator is actually Jeep Wrangler with the bed. This body-on-frame model will also share some components with the Wrangler model, most importantly a drivetrain.
Moreover, a diesel engine will be available as well. Its unique design, open-air setup, and great towing ability are promising. Moreover, the 2020 Gladiator should prove like a capable off-roader. It offers independent rear suspension and the interior will also be Wrangler-based.
2020 Jeep Gladiator Will Borrow Plenty Of Styling Cues From Wrangler
The 2020 Jeep Gladiator will ride on a 137-inch long wheelbase. That is 20 inches longer wheelbase than the four-door Wrangler. This pickup will be available in only one body style, a crew cab configuration with four doors. Moreover, Gladiator will offer four trim levels. The look is clearly similar to the Wrangler model and Gladiator will borrow plenty of styling cues from Wrangler. For the start, removable roof panels and folding windshield are in the offer.
Jeep Gladiator is the first open-air pickup ever. The standard model will have the same ride height as the rest of the mid-size competitors. The pickup will use a five-link rear suspension which should additionally improve the ride. Five-foot steel bed is in the offer, the tailgate looks wide and the rear bumper is revised. Three roof configurations and soft-top are available. The upcoming pickup will look rugged and modern at the same time.
2020 Jeep Gladiator Interior Benefits From Softer Surfaces And Upscale Materials
The interior of the all-new 2020 Jeep Gladiator will be very similar to the Wrangler model. Most of the cues are borrowed and the interior layout is almost the same. There will be room for five passengers and Gladiator will offer the latest technology features. The comfort is great as the cabin benefits upscale materials.
The UConnect infotainment system is all-new and the 5.0-inch display comes as standard. A 7.0-inch display is also available and you can opt for the larger and optional 8.4-inch unit. Lockable storage and lockable bin are in the offer as standard while the wireless speaker is optional. Doors can be easily removed and the folding windshield is easier than ever before. Roof panels are easy to take off and we recommend the optional fabric power sunroof option.
2020 Jeep Gladiator Powertrain
It comes as no surprise that the Jeep is offering a 3.6-liter V6 engine once again. Literally, all new company’s models are using this type of the engine and the 2020 Jeep Gladiator is no different. This engine is producing up to 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque.
On top of that, a 3.0-liter diesel six-cylinder engine could make it into the offer for 2020. Diesel option will deliver 260 HP and up to 442 lb-ft of torque.
Tow Rating and Transmission System
With those torque figures, the 2020 Gladiator will tow around 7,700 pounds. The customers can choose between the 6-speed manual and 8-speed automatic transmission. According to Jeep, the off-road variant called Rubicon will become available too. It will arrive with higher ride height, about 11 inches higher over the base model.
2020 Jeep Gladiator Price and Release Date
The forthcoming 2020 Jeep Gladiator will cost $31,000, just like the four-door Wrangler. The sale will start in the middle of 2019 for the 2020 model. Four trim levels will be in the offer and Jeep will offer its off-road Rubicon variant that will cost significantly more.
