The all-new 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 has been spied a couple of days ago. The prototype wears a couple of surprises. We already wrote about Silverado and Sierra pickups and the interior updates that will GM deliver for 2021. However, the 2022 Sierra 1500 has been caught without interior changes.
On the other hand, the exterior will host additional improvements. Still, some parts are entirely hidden under heavy camouflage. New Sierra pickup truck will go on sale next summer, and its price should slightly increase. Here’s what you need to know about arriving Sierra 1500.
2022 Sierra 1500 Spy Shots
Visually, the new 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 will looks slightly different. The spied prototype looks blocky but it seems like GM opted for a more angular approach. The new model looks refreshed, and some parts are visible at first glance. That includes the front fascia with the black plastic mesh grille. Still, the camouflage perfectly covers new chrome accents.
The openings upfront suggests a place for radar or camera. Some rumors are writing about the Super Cruise Control system, but that is unlikely to happen in the next year or two. On the other hand, the rear section hides novelties such as reshaped taillights and bolder bumper. The side profile should remain intact for 2022.
The spy shots are also showing the latest interior updates. We must say we are disappointed by GM’s decision to deliver minor changes inside the cabin. The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 will mostly remain. While it is far from a competitive decision, GM feels the interior updates for 2021 are more than enough. Both Silverado and Sierra trucks will get the same dashboard and instrument cluster.
The door panels are also the same and are looking less modern than the panels you can see in the Ram and Ford models. We are waiting for the future batch of spy photos that will give us a better look inside the cabin. Hopefully, a new batch will provide more details, and we expect that some of the novelties will be brand-new.
Diesel Engine Gets Improvements
GM could surprise us with the engine options under the hood. New 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 could introduce a new engine. However, reliable reports are predicting the same engine lineup that you can find in the current model. A 3.0-liter Duramax diesel engine is the subject of various speculations. Some stories are saying that this inline-six engine will get better cooling in order to improve the towing capacity.
Moreover, it is one of the most reliable diesel powertrains in the United States. For that reason, GM could improve its fuel efficiency as well. Besides that, Sierra offers two gasoline engines, a 4.3-liter V6, and optional 5.3-liter V8. Gasoline outputs won’t get any sort of improvement for 2022. Lastly, electrification is not on the cards at the moment.
2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Price and Release Date
As we said, we are hoping to see more detailed spy photos in the near future. The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 looks refreshed, but its interior upgrades are disappointing. The arriving pickup truck will now cost slightly above $32,000, and the sales will start in summer 2021.
