The next generation, 2022 GMC Canyon, is expected to debut next year. According to a new report, the forthcoming pickup truck will introduce many improvements. Generally, we can expect more attractive exterior and many new features inside. On top of that, the new engines are expected, and the manufacturer revealed one of them.
For the first time, the powertrain that will power GMC Canyon is the same that can be found under the Silverado and Sierra models. Both models are powered by a 2.7-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder unit generating 310 hp and 348 lb-ft of torque. Interestingly, this engine is working with the new 10-speed automatic transmission.
2022 GMC Canyon Exterior
The upcoming 2022 GMC Canyon is a premium midsize truck that looks unique. One of our favorite exterior details is on its front fascia. Basically, this truck is attractive from any angle, and is very compact. For 2022, some mild updates are happening mostly on the front fascia. The nose is larger and squared-off, reminding us of the GMC Sierra truck.
However, depending on trim level, styling of this truck will vary. Most of the changes will be visible on the GMC Canyon Denali model. This trim comes with 20-inch wheels, a polished exhaust tip, and a revised grille, which looks more attractive.
Interior Updates
The new 2022 GMC Canyon will be available in forms as Extended Cab or Crew Cab. However, no matter which model you choose, expect a very spacious cabin. Like the previous model, we should expect the new one to offer comfortable seats (cloth and leather), more upholstery materials, an upgraded infotainment system of 7-inch, automatic climate control, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
The new Canyon also offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability as standard. Moreover, Canyon Denali is the most equipped truck and is the best option if you’re looking for something different. This model comes with a cocoa/Dark Atmosphere color theme, a heated steering wheel, a bigger 8-inch infotainment screen, and an aluminum interior trim.
2022 GMC Canyon Powertrain Specs
Under the hood, the 2022 GMC Canyon will introduce some changes. Some of the new engines will power this truck alongside existing ones. The base powerplant is a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine delivering 200 horsepower using a 6-speed automatic transmission. Optional and more potent 3.6-liter V6 is the best choice, that is available with a 8-speed automatic transmission. Considering that it is much stronger engine than the first one, it produces 308 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque.
The diesel engine is available as well, and it consists of a 2.8-liter turbodiesel producing 181 horses and 369 lb-ft of torque. The turbodiesel has a 6-speed automatic transmission. Moreover, a two- or four-wheel-drive (2WD, 4WD) systems are available with any of the three engines.

Price and Release Date
The entry-level 2022 GMC Canyon that comes with 2WD, starts at $26,400. However, equipped with 4WD, an Elevation Standard Extended Cab cost $31,800. GMC Canyon AT4 begins at $38,200, while the fully loaded Denali, when equipped with the diesel, can top $50,000.
