The forthcoming 2021 GMC Sierra 3500 HD is getting numerous upgrades later this year. This heavy-duty pickup truck will introduce plenty of changes, but it is still far from a complete redesign. More importantly, GM will deliver a couple of Silverado’s styling cues to its new Sierra HD lineup. The plan is to create a recognizable design language so the two models will look more similar. According to the latest reports, Sierra will suffer the most upgrades upfront.
Once it arrives, you’ll be able to see all the similarities with the Silverado pickup truck. On top of that, GM plans to offer more standard equipment and additional optional amenities that are completely new. As before, Sierra will arrive in three different cab configurations and four trim levels. The price should remain, just like the truck’s performance.
2021 Sierra 3500 HD Exterior Changes
The all-new 2021 GMC Sierra 3500 HD is one very capable pickup truck that looks exactly like that. This model looks very aggressive and rugged. On the other hand, it wears such a subtle and stylish design that is more SUV-like than truckish. Some parts are clearly taken from the Sierra 1500 pickup. Now, the next Sierra will also borrow a couple of cues from the Silverado model. That includes numerous changes on the front fascia.
The front grille is larger, and the headlights are reshaped. In the back, Sierra 3500 HD will host a new Corner Step system. This feature is optional on the base trim level and standard on the upper trims. The pickup truck continues to ride on its nice-looking 18-inch wheels. The range-topping Denali trim level is a thing of luxury. It comes with additional chrome accents, and it adds the MultiPro tailgate system as well.
Interior Updates
Inside, the new 2021 GMC Sierra 3500 HD looks very modern, and it feels comfortable. Again, most of the interior is taken from the Sierra 1500 model. The new cabin will host a couple of minor upgrades. Even without the latest changes, the interior is one of the best-in-segment. Air vents are finished in a new shape that looks more modern. We like the subtle finishes around the dash, and the interior layout is very practical. We don’t expect new displays or any other significant changes. The only difference will be new optional amenities and a slightly longer list of standard features.
Still, if you want real luxury, you’ll have to go for the Denali trim level. This version offers a new 15-inch head-up display, leather seats, and heated steering wheel. More importantly, all of these amenities are offered as standard. Denali also adds numerous wood and chrome accents, which provides more premium feel inside the cabin. Like in the years before, crew cab configuration offers a room for six passengers.
Same Engine Lineup
You shouldn’t expect any changes under the hood in 2021. Sierra HD lineup continues with the same three powertrain options. The 2021 GMC Sierra 3500 HD will arrive with a standard 6.0-liter displacement. This engine generates 300 horses and 333 lb-ft of torque. The same engine with higher output is optional, and it provides 360 hp and 380 lb-ft of twisting power.
Lastly, a 6.6-liter Duramax engine is available and is optional. This turbodiesel V8 is rated at 445 horsepower. More importantly, its 910 lb-ft of torque makes diesel a perfect choice for towing capabilities. Whatsoever, Sierra 3500 HD can tow almost 24,000 pounds. Interestingly, all three available engines are available with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
2021 GMC Sierra 3500 HD Price and Release Date
The approaching 2021 GMC Sierra 3500 HD will cost the same as the current version. The price of the base trim level starts at $38,000. On the other hand, the range-topping Sierra Denali will cost over $60,000, and it provides real luxury. GM’s newest pickup truck will go on sale in the second half of 2020.
