The upcoming 2021 GMC Canyon AT4 is coming to the dealerships early next year. It is an off-road variant of the Canyon mid-size pickup truck. GM confirmed that the new model would replace the All-Terrain model. On top of that, both regular and AT4 models will arrive at the same time. The 2021 model will host a lot of smaller upgrades. A spied prototype is showing a new front fascia, despite the heavy camouflage. Moreover, some of the interior bits are visible as well.
That means you can expect numerous updates, both in and out. On top of that, GM will provide new equipment and will introduce new mechanics. Some reports are writing about the hybrid powertrain, but that is unlikely for 2021. Generally, AT4 package adds off-road ability, higher ride, and standard four-wheel-drive setup.
2021 Canyon AT4 Spy Photos
The all-new 2021 GMC Canyon AT4 will host numerous visual changes. On top of that, this package will add off-road bits, lifted ride height, new suspension, and much more. As for the design, new spy shots are showing more drastic changes on the front fascia. Heavy cladding clearly suggests new grille and possibly reshaped headlights.
Interestingly, but Canyon and Sierra pickup trucks will get almost the same upgrades for 2021. Furthermore, the AT4 model will benefit from latest changes as well. Overall, front fascia looks squared and more aggressive than on the regular Canyon. Rear-end could also get one or two refreshments. The side profile is a mystery in terms of styling, but new off-road tires are more than easy to spot.

Interior Upgrades
On the inside, the mid-size off-road pickup truck will look both modern and stylish. On top of that, the 2021 GMC Canyon AT4 will offer a practical and comfortable interior. Newest spy photos are showing a new infotainment screen. Besides that, the rest of the interior is quite a mystery. No doubt, new model will provide latest high-tech amenities.
Thanks to that, the cabin is more SUV-like in terms of technology. We don’t expect an interior overhaul or anything similar. GM will opt for minor interior improvements. The cabin will remain roomy, and the manufacturer will provide more safety aids. That includes some of the latest driver-assistance features. If you want to buy new 2021 Canyon AT4, it is only available in the Double Cab variant.

2021 GMC Canyon AT4 Diesel and Gasoline
As for the engine options, the 2021 GMC Canyon AT4 won’t depart from the base model. That means a 2.5-liter gasoline engine is offered as standard. This four-cylinder unit is producing 200 hp and 190 lb-ft of torque. Optionally, you can buy 3.6-liter V6 that delivers 310 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of twists. Still, the most popular choice is undoubtedly a 2.8-liter diesel option.
This powertrain can generate up to 180 horses and 370 lb-ft of torque. Logically, diesel variant can tow more, up to 8,000 pounds. On the other hand, gasoline engines are offering Active Tow System. With the AT4 package, you’ll also get a standard 4WD system. Furthermore, unique suspension, lifted ride height and off-road capability are here to improve the performances.
Price, Release Date, Competition
The forthcoming 2021 GMC Canyon AT4 is replacing the All-Terrain variant. It is an off-road version, and it will start at $29,000. To compare, the base model costs around $23,000. According to General Motors, Canyon will be released early in 2020. This off-road mid-size pickup will compete against Toyota Tacoma’s and Ford Ranger’s off-road variants.
