Both Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 will arrive with a complete redesign. Now, both automotive giants will turn their focuses onto the heavy-duty models. The 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 HD is one of the models that we all anticipate to hit the markets. This pickup was spotted under a heavy camouflage and according to spy shots, some significant changes and upgrades are about to happen.
The 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 HD could become the company’s largest vehicle. We expect some huge upgrades, especially up front, where the LED headlights will be in the offer as standard. Sierra won’t offer any new trim levels or body configurations for sure. Even the famous Denali trim will be offered at some point in the near future. The powerful Duramax diesel engine will remain and the interior should offer more premium features than before.
2020 GMC Sierra 2500 HD exterior is based on the Sierra 1500
The all-new 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 HD is heavily-based on the smaller Sierra 1500 pickup. However, 2500 HD will offer much larger and more aggressive features than its smaller sibling. That includes new LED headlights, larger chrome grille, and wheels.
This heavy-duty model comes with more aluminum bodywork so the overall weight is additionally reduced. GMC will offer CarbonPro box and MultiPro tailgate as well. The overall vehicle’s dimensions and shape are intact but even under the camouflage, new upgrades are visible.
2020 GMC Sierra 2500 HD interior will also include the same design as the 1500 model
The interior of the upcoming 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 HD will also borrow almost everything from the smaller Sierra 1500 pickup. This is a good thing and we can see all of the bigger carmakers deploying the same strategy. That means the interior will include the same design as the 1500 model. Not only design but also layout and even the use of upscale materials will be exactly the same. For such a rugged pickup in the heavy-duty segment, the interior is very subtle and comfortable.
Now imagine how the interior will look like when the Denali trim becomes available. However, even the base model will get a lot of standard features and upscale materials. Leather upholstery will be optional once again, along with the additional wood trims. If you opt for the regular cab, you’ll find a room for three passengers. Crew cab models can accommodate six persons.
2020 GMC Sierra 2500 HD engine and transmission
The upcoming 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 HD will use the same engine as its predecessor. It is a proven 6.6-liter Duramax V8 diesel powertrain. It generates 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque and it comes with the 6-speed automatic transmission.
The 2020 model will most likely offer a 6.0-liter V8 gasoline unit as a complementary powertrain choice. The gasoline engine will deliver 360 HP and 380 lb-ft of twists. We are still unsure what sort of transmission will GMC opt for, but the 9-speed automatic transmission is perhaps the most likely outcome.
2020 GMC Sierra 2500 HD price and release date
The heavy-duty pickup truck will start at around $40,000. The 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 HD will get a small price increase and we can’t wait for the specs of the Sierra 2500 Denali. This luxurious trim will surely cost around $70,500 and it will offer premium amenities and features only. The arriving pickup will hit the dealerships in the last quarter of 2019.
