Ford is testing several vehicles at this moment. However, the model that grabs the most attention is the 2022 Ford Ranger Raptor. Prototypes were spotted in Colorado and it is a clear suggestion that the Ranger will become available in the United States again. Of course, many things are a complete mystery at the moment but detailed images of the suspension are telling a lot.
It is a model that could cause a huge splash, along with the return of the Bronco. Interestingly, two models will share a lot of components and both models will be manufactured at the same plant. After the renderings, the first spy shots are available, and here’s what we know about the new Ranger Raptor so far.
2022 Ranger Raptor Specs
At this point, we know almost everything about the new 2021 Ford Bronco SUV and its possible versions. On the other hand, the new 2022 Ford Ranger Raptor is quite a mystery. Interestingly, the two models should be very similar in some aspects. Ford released detailed images of the Bronco suspension and chassis. Two models will share the same Michigan factory, so there is a chance that Bronco and Ranger will deploy the same platform. Raptor is a perfect off-road truck, so this version will probably get a similar setup as the Bronco 4×4 Sasquatch or Bronco Warthog models.
That includes the rear suspension. The photos are showing a rear axle suspended with coil springs and not leafs. This is not so shocking discovery as the current Raptor is using the same configuration. The rear FOX shocks are available and it is almost certain that the Ranger Raptor will use Bronco’s suspension. Lastly, the 2022 Ranger Raptor will most likely deploy a 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 engine. The same engine will power the Bronco SUV.
What About Engine Rumors?
For a start, the Australian Ranger and the US-spec Ranger will be different in terms of powertrain options. The 2022 Ford Ranger Raptor will surely deliver great performances. However, on one knows which engines will become available. The biggest rumor is the famous Coyote V8 engine that powers the Ford Mustang model. We think that is less likely to happen.
As we already mentioned, a 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine with 330 hp is the most likely outcome. This engine will produce 400 lb-ft of torque which is more than enough. As for the Australian Ranger, a 3.0-liter turbodiesel is the most likely candidate.
2022 Ford Ranger Raptor Price and Release Date
The arriving mid-size pickup truck will probably hit the dealerships in the second half of 2021. More importantly, the all-new 2022 Ford Ranger Raptor is going on sale in the United States. It is the next-gen Ranger so its price will start at around $47,000. Usually, the Raptor variant arrives a couple of months after the regular Ranger.
That means the Raptor version could become available in the first quarter of 2022. It wouldn’t be a surprise for sure. The biggest competitors are Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro, Chevrolet Silverado ZR2, and Jeep Gladiator Mojave.
