Electric vehicles are the future in the automotive world. However, no one expected all-electric pickup trucks to become so popular in such a short amount of time. The upcoming 2021 Ford F-150 Electric will attract a lot of attention. Of course, Tesla and Rivian are currently the most popular subjects in the pickup truck segment.
On the other hand, Ford has a perfect candidate, an iconic F-150 model. This pickup will get both hybrid and electric versions. On top of that, Ford plans to make F-150 tech-dominant so we can expect numerous changes in that department. No doubt, Tesla and Rivian will get a serious competitor.
F-150 Electric Prototype
A test mule has been spotted in Michigan. Many reports are suggesting that we are dealing with the 2021 Ford F-150 Electric. It makes perfect sense in our opinion. Ford did confirm the electric variant this year. So, this could be the prototype of the electric pickup.
On the other hand, F-150 Electric won’t depart from the regular gasoline model in terms of design. Of course, the only exceptions are a higher ride and a place for a plugin. Higher ride is a must for Blue Oval as the pickup needs the space to accommodate large batteries beneath the floor.
You probably read about it, but Ford plans to maintain tech dominance in the pickup truck segment. For that reason, all of the pickup trucks will get numerous technology improvements. The forthcoming 2021 Ford F-150 Electric will be no different. We can expect impressive tech from the inside. Logically, all of the F-150 trim levels and special versions will be more than well-equipped. For the start, the new touchscreen is certain to happen.
According to Blue Oval, a new unit will be up to 50% larger than the current display. RAM did something similar and Ford is following the same path. The larger display will force Ford to remove most of the buttons from the inside. F-150 Electric will also feature new driver-assistance and safety systems.
Powertrain Rumors, Towing Capacity
It is hard to predict the exact specs of the all-new 2021 Ford F-150 Electric. At this point, no one really knows how much power will this version generate. Of course, everyone except for the electric variant to deliver better performance than the gasoline version. Ford teased us with a video of the new electric F-150. In that video, F-150 is towing a train full of other F-150 pickups. The feedback on the video was very positive, but there are so many questions to be answered.
For the start, is this a suggestion of an impressive towing capacity? Blue Oval will invest around $500 million in the startup Rivian Automotive. As you probably know, Rivian is promising amazing figures for its new R1T model. Ford could largely benefit from it. Besides great towing capacity, F-150 Electric will get amazing mileage.
2021 Ford F-150 Electric Price and Release Date
If Blue Oval plans to rival Tesla, then the price should be easy to determinate. The upcoming 2021 Ford F-150 Electric will start between $40,000 and $50,000.
As you probably know, Elon Musk said that Tesla’s new pickup will start below $49,000. New F-150 Electric will go on sale at the beginning of 2021. Official details are yet to be announced.
