General Motors is working on the next-gen 2022 Chevy Colorado. Besides this pickup, GMC Canyon will also suffer serious modifications for 2022. According to the latest details, GM is about to invest $1.5 billion into the forthcoming pickups. One part of that money will go into upgrading the company’s truck plant in Missouri.
Unfortunately, General Motors declined to talk about next-gen Colorado. However, the manufacturer did say that the plan is to create the most successful pickup truck company. Colorado should arrive with an updated version of the current platform. Of course, next-gen models are always introducing major upgrades so Colorado won’t be different.
2022 Colorado Exterior Redesign
GM plans to separate the new 2022 Chevy Colorado and Silverado pickup. Two models are similar in terms of design and even price. For that reason, next-gen Colorado will offer something completely new. For a start, the front fascia will gain a new look. The grille will be wider and the headlights are brand-new. The new platform is also a possibility. However, that information is not confirmed, yet.
The 2020 Colorado rides on the 31xx architecture and new model, along with GMC Canyon should get the new structure. Colorado offers a more stylish appearance but some features such as front and rear bumpers are basically the same. New exterior colors are also a must and we can expect the same trim levels as in with the current model.
Interior Overhaul
More drastic upgrades will happen on the inside as well. The new-gen 2022 Chevy Colorado will receive a significant technology boost. That includes various high-tech features, driver-assistance aids, and additional safety systems. The new platform will largely determine the interior room. As a matter of fact, the interior layout should largely remain. That means the seating capacity won’t change in any of the available cab configurations. The new infotainment system is a must and Chevy will introduce larger displays. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will remain in the offer.
The cabin will look more driver-oriented and you can expect a higher level of comfort. On the other hand, Colorado will remain as practical as before, maybe even more. A new design of the dashboard and instrument cluster is another must. That also means a new layout of buttons will be available. Speaking of which, Chevrolet will reduce the number of buttons inside the cabin.
Wide Range of Available Engines
The new platform will most likely accommodate a new powertrain option. The 2022 Chevy Colorado could get a new 2.7-liter turbo-four gasoline engine. This output delivers around 310 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. Of course, this information is yet to be confirmed. We don’t know if the current 2.5-liter four-cylinder will remain in the offer. This engine is capable of producing 200 horsepower and 190 lb-ft of torque.
On the other hand, optional 3.6-liter V6 is certain for 2022. This powertrain generates 310 horses and 275 lb-ft of twisting power. In some markets, Colorado will also offer a 2.8-liter Duramax diesel engine. If you need more torque, the diesel engine is good for 370 lb-ft of torque and 180 hp. The latest rumors are also writing about new 10-speed automatic transmission.
2022 Chevy Colorado Price and Release Date
The upcoming 2022 Chevy Colorado will get a jump in price. That means next-gen pickup will cost around $25,000. It is a reliable pickup truck and the price is fair in our opinion.
As for the release date, the 2022 Colorado will go on sale later next year. This pickup will be sold in Thailand, Australia, Canada, and even the US. Lastly, Chevrolet will now offer the same pickup on every market.
