New Colorado is on its way. We can expect numerous improvements in basically every category. The upcoming 2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 will also get some drastic changes. Whatsoever, Chevy plans to make each trim level unique. This move will surely expend the customization and customers will have more choice. The ZR2 variant will get new face, including the all-new grille.
On top of that, this off-road version now comes with standard red tow hooks. The rear end will also suffer a lot of changes. On the other hand, the interior will mostly remain so don’t expect significant changes from the inside. Furthermore, performances will also carry over in 2021.
New Front Fascia and Tailgate
The approaching 2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 will only get the exterior changes. The interior and mechanics should largely remain. So let’s focus on the design for now. The current model looks outdated compared to the rest of the competition. So the GM has every reason to introduce exterior upgrades. For a start, Chevy plans to deliver a unique design to each trim level. The off-road capable ZR2 will get a completely new face. The front fascia will now look very mean. The grille is all-new, and bowtie emblem now sits below the grille. Further below, new pair of red tow hooks are added.
More importantly, tow hooks are offered as standard. To be honest, Silverado HD already features a similar layout. The 2021 Colorado ZR2 will also introduce one drastic change in the back. The rear part will get new tailgate with large CHEVROLET lettering. According to GM, latest changes are intended to help Colorado to keep up with the rest of the lineup. The focus is on vehicle’s aggressiveness and its modern appearance.
Interior Gets Zero Improvements
When asked about the possible interior improvements, GM said that there wouldn’t be any. That means the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado will be a carryover in terms of interior. Still, we find a truck’s cockpit very modern and nice-looking. On the other hand, we are surprised with lack of interest in technology. The rest of the competition is offering a drastically better interior in terms of tech.
ZR2 comes with a relatively new MyLink infotainment system and solid driver-assistance lineup. An 8-inch touchscreen remains standard display choice. The same stands for the sporty steering wheel, USB ports, and upholstery. We don’t say the cabin is awful, but small cosmetic updates would surely help.
Engine Specs
The all-new 2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 remains in terms of performances. This off-road truck offers two engine options. You can equip your ZR2 variant with a 3.6-liter V6. This engine features a variable valve timing system and the direct fuel injection. The output delivers 305 horses and 275 lb-ft of torque.
Moreover, 8-speed automatic transmission is in the offer. On the other hand, a Duramax 2.8-liter diesel is available. Smaller diesel unit generates 180 horsepower and 370 lb-ft of torque. Unlike the standard gasoline, diesel engine is using a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Some reports are predicting for the 2020 ZR2 Colorado to arrive with a brand-new powertrain option.
