When the carmakers release their respective pickup trucks into the markets, the attention is turning to the heavy duty models. The 2020 Chevy Silverado HD will be no different. Silverado 2500 and 3500 series will arrive next year and will be based on the 1500 model, logically. Moreover, the new images are available and we can see some changes.
The 2020 Silverado HD looks really imposing and aggressive. The new model will get the even bolder design and the interior will be very similar to the Silverado 1500 pickup truck.
2020 Chevy Silverado HD is based on the smaller Silverado 1500
It looks like the all-new 2020 Chevy Silverado HD will get new striking LED headlights. The front fascia will get some additional cuts for edgier appeal and the grille will add more chrome materials. Of course, the HD series is based on a smaller Silverado 1500. Both Silverado 2500 and Silverado 3500 are bigger and bolder.
Now, the 2020 model will be even bolder and the design is really aggressive. We like that massive hood scoop, a styling cue that departs from the 1500 model. Thanks to the camouflage on the test vehicles, we can’t say if the rear part will get any changes at all.
2020 Chevy Silverado HD interior gets a 7.0-inch touchscreen display
From what we know, the interior of the 2020 Chevy Silverado HD will be also based on a smaller Silverado 1500. The design is the same, along with the controls layout. Not only that, heavy duty series will use the same buttons and knobs as well. We don’t have a clear picture of the interior but we can easily figure it out how it’s going to look.
A 7.0-inch touchscreen will come as standard and the infotainment system will get an update. Cloth seats are standard too and leather upholstery will remain optional, just as on the current model. The interior quality and upscaleness will largely depend on the chosen trim level.
2020 Chevy Silverado HD engine
As we already wrote, the upcoming 2020 Chevy Silverado HD still hides some mystery under its bonnet. According to spy shots, everything will remain and Chevrolet will not install a larger engine.
If the predictions are true, a 6.0-liter V8 will remain standard powertrain. On top of that, the current optional unit is not certain and it is a 6.6-liter V8 diesel unit. Some sources are saying the diesel engine is gone and some other are saying that this V8 powerplant will gain more torque.
If that is true, tow rating will be even better. The base model could get the Dynamic Fuel Management system that will improve the overall fuel economy figures.
The current heavy-duty models are offering great tow rating. Base engine can tow up to 14,400 pounds. Diesel V8 tows 15,400 pounds with 2500, and up to 23,100 pounds with 3500 HD model.
2020 Chevy Silverado HD price and release date
If Chevrolet decides to keep the existing prices, the 2020 Chevy Silverado HD will start from $35,000 for the base model. This heavy-duty pickup truck will arrive next fall, at the same time as the 2020 GMC Sierra HD.
