Pickup truck segment is witnessing unprecedented growth in recent times. It is not only about top players like GM and Ford launching new pickup truck models and sprucing up popular ones. More players are going to hop on this bandwagon and that list includes some top luxury models like BMW pickup truck Concept.
After Mercedes Benz taking the veils of its ambitious X class luxury pickup, it is natural that other luxury carmakers will follow suit. The prospect of BMW launching its version to take on the arch-rival is there. BMW, however, has not said anything with confirmation. That has not deterred the rumor sites from coming up with speculative render and the buzz is gaining momentum with time.
BMW Pickup Truck Design
Not much is known about the upcoming luxury pickup from BMW, as of now. Rival Mercedes Benz has used the popular Nissan Navara NP300 platform as a base. BMW does not have such partners to develop a pick-up truck on. So, it may use any of the SUV architectures or create a new one from the ground up.
However, a luxury pickup based on Toyota trucks may be on the cards. BMW has already partnered with the Japanese car behemoth for the Z5 roadster. A truck modeled on the popular Toyota Hilux may be on the cards. Typical BMW design elements will be present in the truck- whenever it hits production ramp. You can expect the vehicle to have the twin-kidney grille and sleek headlamps on the front side. Enough chrome accents may be also used on the exterior. It may have a few trim levels.
BMW Pickup Truck Interior
The cabin of the BMW pickup truck will be absolutely lavish and sleek looking. Plenty of leather, wood and metal trim will be used in the cabin. The typical BMW dashboard with leather coated steering wheel will be there. The cabin will also feature advanced noise cancellation tech, automated climate control and infotainment setup.
BMW Pickup Truck Engine
As of now, it is hard to say with certainty which powertrain will be used in the upcoming BMW pickup. Any of the engines used in top BMW SUVs may be used with some tweaks to suit the truck platform. Both gasoline and diesel engines may be offered. Since BMW is focusing on using hybrid powertrain in most of its vehicles, a possibility of the company using a special plug-in hybrid setup cannot be ruled out completely. In any case, the engine may be laden with BMW’s xDrive AWD setup.
BMW Pickup Truck Price and Availability
The newest BMW pickup truck will not come cheap- as it is. The base trim price may be well above the $55.000 mark. No release date is known but 2020 is likely.
Summing it up
The possibility of BMW luxury truck is there through a lot of details are yet to be confirmed. It will give BMW the scope to explore the relatively less developed niche in the truck segment. However, the truck should be laden with a powerful engine and safety features to match the rival offerings. It is not going to be priced cheap though.
